Upcoming ADOS-2 Reliability Workshops

I am really excited to announce another set of 3, small group Reliability Workshops. The previous workshops focused on assessing girls & women. These focus on autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), often referred to as AuDHD when there is a dual diagnosis.

Prior to the DSM-5 (2013), it was not possible to diagnose co-occurring autism and ADHD. At that time, one condition was believed to exclude the other. However, we now know that this is not the case, and research highlights high rates of co-occurring autism and ADHD (Rong et al., 2021).

There is a lot of very informative and interesting information about AuDHD at the following link: https://embrace-autism.com/an-introduction-to-audhd/

These reliability workshops are open to everyone trained in ADOS-2 regardless of experience. I strongly believe in sharing our own experience and knowledge and learning from each other, and the workshops provide opportunities to discuss coding with other people attending the sessions before we calibrate coding with the consensus.

We will focus on particular items that are highly relevant to each assessment participants watch, e.g., this might be sensory, it might be conversation, it might be stereotyped language, and administration.

Other trainers may join us for coding discussions. The workshops are in the afternoon so that trainers from other countries can join.

N.B., you do not have to attend all three.

ADOS-2 reliability workshop July 2025

Module Three, Boy in Year 2, aged 7;1

This is a video of wonderful boy with a lot of strengths, who presented differently at home and school. He has been known to local NHS community paediatricians since he was in Reception due to concerns related to activity levels, emotional regulation, oppositional behaviours at home, and difficulty sleeping. These escalated, and a dual diagnosis was suggested, which the family had not considered before.

ADOS-2 reliability workshop September 2025

Module 3, Boy in Year 6, aged 10;5

This is a video of a bright, interesting, creative, very likeable boy, who has diagnoses of Dyspraxia and ADHD. There is a history of neurodivergence in his family, and as he got older, his parents became increasingly aware of the fact that the diagnoses he had, did not explain observations at home and at school. For example, social communication differences, difficulties integrating verbal and non-verbal means of communication, difficulties maintaining friendships, sensory differences. They were also concerned about his mental health and low self-esteem.

ADOS-2 reliability workshop November 2025

Module 4 Boy in Sixth Form, aged 17;5

This is a video of a young man, who has a complex family background, and a history of bullying, which has affected his mental health and his self-esteem. He is extremely bright and really enjoys learning. However, school is not easy for him, and teachers are unsure how to support him. He is aware of differences between himself and many of his peers, but negative experiences have resulted in critical thoughts about himself and very low mood at times. There has been considerable concern about his mental health but difficulty understanding him and the way he processes information, has made it hard for others to know how to respond.
